More work on HSTeria

My small Half Square Triangle piece got quilted today and made into a pillow cover. More straight line quilting, but with the occasional change of direction for variety.

I also removed loads of dust from under the bed along with several things, including a bag of small quilts that I had thought lost! There was also a bag of stuffing that will make the pillow insert for this - another finish!

HSTeria two

New half square triangles - envelopes!

Check out the HSTeria link to see what other people are making.
I need a quilt that is one metre square, so this has gone off to be quilted and I confidently expect it to lie flat! Because the blocks are set on point they are on the bias. I did make sure that I cut the setting triangles with their edges straight on the outside of the quilt and the small borders also help to stabilise it. This is some more of the lovely fine cottons called "Houses Drift" that I won in an online competitionfrom "The Fat Quarter" shop in the USA.

I am away now for a couple of weeks so may not be able to post.

Another Top Done Two!

Here is my Serpentine Curves top together at last. I've been working on this for a while. It is more difficult than I thought getting the blocks together as there are issues with which way the turnings need to be pressed so that they nest and make a flatter top; and the edges of the block are stretchy...

I have turned it round and quite like it this way up.
I thought I was making a rectangular quilt but hey ho! it turned out square again.. weird that I always seem to be making square quilts. The blocks are about 7" so now I need to decide: Do I need it any bigger? are borders needed?

I've also had a play with my winning fabrics Houses Drift. These are softly coloured, what is sometimes known among Modern quilters as Low Volume fabrics. I cut some 5" squares and made half square triangles and made about a dozen different arrangements. I added in some soft pink hand dye and this is the arrangement I like best:

It isn't square!

The Stair where I sit...

Here is Lucy in stair-guarding mode. Should anyone venture near the kitchen she's at the ready!

Today I had a look at the collection of blocks that use 16 half square triangles. I was surprised to find that there are five of them, and another five that use 6,7 or 8 half square triangles in the same size so I will mass- produce some on grids while I am away at quilt retreat this week.

This one is called "Windblown Square" and it's the first time I've made it. You have to watch out for which direction the turnings need to go. I thought I was on top of it, but still got a couple out of position.
