Living World Exhibition Call

The Guild is calling for entries for a new exhibition called Living World.

I have offered my Great Granny Squares quilt as they say they want Traditional quilts too.

This is a Traditional block made in Modern Fabrics and was made as a handling Sample for the new Modern Specialist Group of The Quilter Guild.

...it would be nice for it to go out into the world on an adventure of its own!

Each of the blocks seemed to me as I was making it to be reminiscent of the new flowers growing up through last years dry stalks. I don't have any idea if it will be accepted but I do know that I sent a quilt once before and it was very well looked after and very well packed for its journey home.

Colour Play

I've been designing today with the lovely shott cottons from Oakshott, and made a piece based on my photographs of the coloured pallets and the Farm shop. Now I have to finish writing up the pattern and make another sample in a different colourway, but here is a tempting part of the picture... all will be revealed at the Festival of Quilts next month.

I also had a lovely parcel today with two quilts returning from Mandy Parks having been beautifully Long Arm Quilted.. just need binding which is, incidentally the subject of the class I am giving this week!
Pictures to follow when they are completed.

The binding's on!

Getting things finished is always a problem, but I got the binding done on this quilt today, just have to stitch the sleeve on and label it!
The binding was all done by machine, stitched to the back of the quilt and then turned to the front and stitched along the fold to secure it. I used five similar jelly roll strips but trimmed them to 2" and joined on the bias. Nice and quick and perfectly adequate as I am not planning to enter it into any competitions.

This is my Serpentine Curves quilt which I have shown before. It has been quilted with a raindrops pattern designed and quilted by Mandy Parks.

It will be my sample for the class I am teaching in September.

Here are pictures of my two quilts that live in the villa in Spain. (Two more to add to the tally..)

This one is a bordered four-patch and can be made with jelly-roll strips.

It is quilted with an all-over pattern of dragonflies.

The second is a rail fence and quilted with a pattern of sailing boats, both done by Judith Fells. They finish to about 52" square.
It was so hot in Spain that we had them on the bed with just a sheet and dispensed with the duvet!

Another top done!

I finished the Plusses quilt top this morning before setting off to Quilt group. I think it will look stunning when it's been long arm quilted.

At quilt group Linda showed her Cowboy Boots quilt which her son took to the states and got quilted for £35, just a stars and loops panto, but great to get it done.

Then when I got home there was an email from Jenny with a picture of the block she has made for her Sampler quilt, following on from the Rattlesnake class I taught. She had to  reduce the size of the pattern to make the block fit her scheme. It looks really good on point, and I love it when students take the technique and go off and do their own thing!
